Yesterday I was on the phone with my mother and we were talking about "chat speak" or "text speak". For
anyone who isn't familiar with it, it's the act of butchering the spelling of a word, or in some cases making whole
sentences acronyms. For example: WYD (What are You Doing) or LOL (Laughing Out Loud). In some cases
people will use a different letter when another letter is correct. For example the word "GOING". The other day I
actually saw some one spell it "qoinq". No lie. I can't make this stuff up. I really don't understand it. Don't get
me wrong. I've been known to use chat speak acronyms. Sometimes on here, sometimes on FB (see), but
mostly IN CHATS OR TEXT MESSAGES. That is where that type of speech is appropriate. Wen ur fb stat l
00ks lik dis....perhaps it's time to reevaluate what you're doing. That is how a fifteen year old speaks. But hey
what do I know? What do you guys think??

Being A Writer in This Economy
So last night alone I applied for five different jobs. None of which include writing. Most of the writing jobs that I've seen require some type of higher degree or years and years of experience. These are things I don't have unfortunately. That's fine, though. It won't stop me from writing when I can. As much as I would love to be a stay at home mom and write full time, in this economy that is just impossible. Especially with a child. One income households just aren't realistic anymore. So now I'm waiting for an email or a phone call. Something. Anything. Any suggestions or job opportunities that you know about?? Feel free to comment.

Blogger VS WordPress....and some updates on some stuff...
It's weird...I'm on WordPress more than Blogger but I have more followers and fewer page views a day over there. Here, I have fewer followers and more page views. Currently I'm using both but if these stats keep up, then I might consider just returning to just Blogger....
Anyhoo....
For the past couple of months I've been working on a YA novel. Recently (as recently as last night) I've added a love interest for my main female character. I read a lot of romance and write some too, but I'm really interested in writing a YA adventure type novel with African American MC's. I feel like there are so few stories for young POC to read and see themselves in. I want to play a part in changing that. I want my son or my nieces and nephews to be able to read a book and say, "Hey! They look like me!". I'm currently working on a piece that falls into that category. The main character is a black female. She and her twin brother are looking for their missing parents. Along the way the female MC meets a love interest. That's the bit that I was building on last night...
So that's what I'm doing now. Feel free to comment with questions or any type of feedback

Kindergarten
So today the kiddo went to kindergarten. He was so excited! I was excited too but still....my day has been so empty since dropping him off this morning. I took a nap in the middle of the day; something I wouldn't ordinarily do. I suppose this will give me more time for writing. I'm almost finished with the short short that I've been working on. Going to edit it soon....
It just feels strange. Eerie almost. I had dinosaur chicken nuggets for lunch.....I'm pathetic LOL

Randomness..........
So this blog is supposed to be about a day in the life of me: An Aspiring Writer. I'm thinking about starting a Tumblr in addition this blog about the books that I read. Sort of like a review type thing. I've read a lot of books. Not as many as others but still quite a few, and of course there are many more to come. I'm still hashing out the details of how I want to do this. I just read an interesting bit of info (I'm researching in the process of writing this blog). Some bloggers contact other authors for guest posts. That sounds cool.....and scary!
......Maybe instead of writing reviews about the books themselves, and I can talk about the book covers. I've never seen a blog about that before (there's probably one out there, though)....
Yet another blog post that I started and didn't finish. I still haven't seen a blog that talks about the book covers and I do have a Tumblr now that is being neglected. I'm thinking of trying to maintain this blog, the WordPress that I'm working on, as well as the neglected Tumblr. Hmmm...we shall see....Stay tuned

My Thoughts (so far) on A Song of Ice and Fire
*WARNING SPOILERS*
So a few weeks ago, I began reading A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R.Martin. The story is about a kingdom that was usurped by a man and held for many years. When he died the throne fell to his son. However there were those who believed that his children weren't "true born" (born of him). There were rumors that his wife, the Queen Cersei, had an affair with her twin brother and that he is the real father of her children. So now there are five people vying for the Iron Throne; the throne that sits in Kings Landing, the capital.
The king in the North, Robb Stark is the son of the late Lord Eddard Stark. He was the kings hand but his head was chopped off b/c they accused him of treason. King Robb along with his bannerman, sworn lords, and his trusty direwolf Grey Wind mount attacks against the Lannisters (the Queen Cersei's family and the young King Joffrey's family), among other houses and armies that stand in their way as he works to protect his kingdom in the North.
King Stannis in Dragonstone is King Joffreys uncle on the late King Robert Baratheon's side. He is one that believes that Joffrey isn't true born, and since King Robert didn't have any other true born sons, then that would make his brother Stannis the lawful successor to his throne. King Stannis is being influenced by a woman named Mellisandra who believes in the God of Light. This God of Light is far different from the seven Gods that some worship as well as the tree Gods that others worship.
Balon Greyjoy is the Iron Born king. I don't really count him because he isn't mentioned much. I guess that tells you just how big his claim is....
I apparently started this awhile ago and never finished. I have however finished reading the series thus far. After the first two books, Mr. Martin tends to get a bit wordy. However it was a great read. I'm looking forward to the next installment; whenever that may be. A lot of fans of this story haven't actually read the book series. The watch the show. I watched the first season and I must say, I was impressed! I haven't been able to watch the seasons so far. I feel it is safe to say that I'm behind in the story as books that transition to television or film often times have a tendency to stray from the original storyline. Hopefully in the near future I can get caught up, and I look forward to bringing you more reviews on books/series that I'm reading. Most likely it will be the adventures of Robert Langdon as told by Dan Brown.

No title....just a little something...
I'm on WordPress mostly but I decided to come post over too...my kiddo starts school tomorrow and I decided to express my feelings about his momentous occasion in verse. Feel free to comment....
It's hard to believe
that tomorrow's the day.
Just one more sleep
and he'll be on his way.
His bag is all packed;
his uniform pressed.
You're figuring it out now.
You've realized. You've guessed.
It's the first day of kindergarten.
A day most mother's dread.
The road leading to it
can be difficult to tread.
Don't get me wrong
it's very exciting.
Even right now
it's what I feel as I'm writing.
The thought of his little eyes
shining with joy.
The same joy you'll see
on every girl and every boy.
Still there's that feeling
that every mother will get.
You're feeling it now
as you read this, I bet.
But mothers don't fret.
Don't weep, don't ball.
Kindergarten is the beginning.
The beginning of it all.
For now it is time
for new memories to be made,
things to learn,
and a groundwork to be laid.
So cherish those memories.
However great; however small.
Cherish those memories.
Cherish them all

WordPress
I think the only way to really get a feel for WP is by just going ahead and starting one. So I'm doing it! Right now. It's over in the next tab and I'll be giving you guys a play by play as I'm going through the sign up process and writing my first post.........
So far, they've asked what I'd like my wordpress name to be and whether or not I'd like to pay $17 dollars a year for a .com name. I'm not interested in that. Next, they asked me to provide a password, then they asked for my email address and the usual checkbox was available about whether I wanted updates about future themes that may be available. (Not at this time......)
I'll be clicking sign up now.
Well, I've signed up, but I'll have to confirm my email address to activate my account. Doing that now.
So the account has been activated. Right away it took me to the WP Dashboard; much different from the Dashboard here. Aside from the colors being different, there is so much going on! It is simultaneously simpler and more complex all at the same time!
They have a post already written for you, as well as a comment. They encourage you to delete it and post your own first post. You can also delete the comment which simply tells you that it's a comment.....
The first post has been posted and now comes the page customization. After previewing just one blog theme, I'm really excited! The theme has been chosen. It's called Mystique.
So far, I'm really enjoying this!

Possible Future Blog Importing
So I'm considering importing this blog over to WordPress. I've been doing this blog pretty steadily for awhile and things haven't really worked out the way that I planned. I've been trolling the WP site and I really like what I see! :) I've also asked the opinion of some other writers and bloggers, and they agree that WP will be the best choice for what I'm looking for: more followers based on the blog as a whole instead of just based on keywords. What do you guys think?

My brother and his family left today. My heart hurts! I didn't expect to cry but of course you never know how something will affect you until it actually happens. I will very much miss my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. :'( I hope to plan a trip to Holland to visit them next year. I also plan to learn Dutch and to see that my kid learns Dutch so that we will be able to communicate in their first language. Looks like I'll need to look into Rosetta Stone.......
Writing: I told my mother that I've been having trouble deciding on which genre I want to write in. The top choices are between Romance, Erotica, and Fantasy. She recommend writing in all three. It's an intriguing idea. That will be something to think about and research later. Right now though, I'm about to eat this frozen pizza that I cooked in her toaster oven and watch Sweeney Todd.

A Dream I had last night......
So I've always had really strange dreams. Last nights dream was no exception. Maybe someone could help me interpret it:
We snuck into a high school. There were four of us. We raced up the stairs. I'm not really sure what we were looking for. Before anyone could catch us, we began making our way back outside. Once we were outside, we noticed that one of us was missing. To the right of where we were standing there was a cheerleading squad practicing and laughing about something. I stormed over to them and demanded to know where the little boy was. They laughed and told me. When they were done, I told them that they would go to jail for this. I ran to the parking lot toward a row of parked cars. I found the boy tied to the rear bumper. The car behind the car he was tied to was parked backwards and it was running. The exhaust pipe was blowing in his face. I untied him and together we walked back to what had now become a rather large gathering.
This is where the dream gets even more strange!
One of the two girls that was with us had a bow staff. She did some sort of tribute to him, and then set her bow on fire. The second girl we came to had a sword and shield. She also did a tribute to the boy then set her sword and shield on fire. The entire time we were walking I was sobbing and balling my eyes out. When we came around the stage where the sword and shield were burning, we came upon another stage. There was a Native American Indian Chief doing some strange fire tricks. All of a sudden I start manipulating the wind and the flame. I use the wind to remove the headdress from the chiefs head, then I use the flame to set it ablaze. Then I use the wind to float the head dress to the boys head where it then quite literally disappeared. The boy and I walked away to sit on the steps of the high school. The Indian chief and police chief came up to us and started questioning the boy about the whereabouts of the head dress. Neither of us said anything. The Indian chief said, "What's wrong boy? You had plenty to say last night. Now you sit there like some brooding cowboy." I thought to myself, "Shouldn't he be in jail?!" I knew he was involved with the cheerleaders. He had basically just admitted it.
It was at this point that I woke up............
Any idea what that may mean??

Vacation Day 3
So today is day three of my 2 week vacation. We went to the park again yesterday. My kid didn't fall out of the swing so that's a relief. I saw some more old friends and reminisced about high school choir and how strange it is to be grown up with kids. It was fun. My mom made spaghetti for dinner in a pot that she's had since before I was born. It was a great day!
Today, I'm not really sure what we're doing. I think someone mentioned swimming, but that's later in the day........
Writing:
I'm planning to do some research and writing today. Probably while the kid is napping which will be in just a little while. I really need to work on plotting and some characterization.
I may be writing another blog later.......

Vacation Day 2.......
My brother and his family made it safely! YAY!!!!!! I got to hang out with my friend. I tried to feel her baby kick but she (the baby) was being stubborn. We went out to eat and took my kid some of everywhere. He had a blast. He never gets to stay up this late.
Tomorrow is Monday so Ruth (my friend) has to work. I won't get to see her until maybe later in the day or later in the week. My brother and I are going to just chill around the house and let the cousins play and get acquainted with each other. While my mother says that they have two completely different personalities, I think they'll get along famously.
Well, it's wasn't only a long day for the kid, but it was a long day for his mommy as well. I'm going to hit the hay now.

2 Week Vacation
So I'm in Arkansas at my parents house for two weeks with the kid. Senior had to work so he couldn't come with us. (Someone has to bring home the proverbial bacon!)
Anyway....
I'm a little bit excited about this trip. One of my very best friends is pregnant and she found out the sex of the baby yesterday! It's a girl and her name will be Olivia Lorene. Naturally I'm excited to see her. I'll probably stay at her house for a couple of days to help her out and whatnot. I remember what it's like to be pregnant. I'll also be seeing a few other friends while in town.
More good news: My youngest older brother is in the States with his wife and their two kids Aiden, and Lily. They live in the Netherlands so of course hardly anyone gets to see them unless it's on Facebook and still hardly even then.
Also, I'm a little bit not so excited about this trip. I was really looking forward to a two week vacay from Deuce while he visted with the Grands and I stayed at home but then I thought about how I hadn't seen my mother in over a year and a half, and how much I missed my friends......
So here I am in my childhood room while my kid is snug in the guest room.
Today we just chilled. Tomorrow (supposedly)my brother will be here, and my friend will be visiting. Now that I'm here, I think it will be a pretty good visit.
Writing.......While I did bring a notebook, I don't really know how much writing I'll really get done here. There are a few ideas that I'm might research while I'm up typing on my moms awesome PINK laptop (I WANT IT!!!!!)!!!!!!!
Not sure if I mentioned the Fantasy novel that I've been working on. There are a few things that I want to research while I have the Grandparents keeping the kid semi distracted. Maybe there will be a rough draft in a month or so. There are a lot of details that I want to hash out first.......

More of my randomness
So I'm here to post another blog post that probably no one will ever read or comment on. As you can see, I'm feeling sorry for myself. I know. PATHETIC! Oh well.....
I'm probably the most scatter-brained writer on the planet. One day I'll be writing erotica, then the next day, I'll be writing romance, then young adult action or something. Now I'm writing a scifi novel. My mom likes it so far. SMH Anyway.....
I won't say anything more about it until I have more of an outline or something done. In other news: I've started reading my three year old Ray Bradbury stories. Tonight, we finished The Veldt. He enjoyed "the lion book". Tomorrow night we'll be reading The Illustrated Man. I've had mixed reviews about whether or not this is appropriate reading for his age group. I think it's okay. One of my Twitter followers is really excited that I'm reading that to him. I don't think it can really hurt him. She actually recommended that I read The Halloween Tree during the Fall. Amazon has it for a good price right now so I might go ahead and order it. They also have the movie for around forty bucks. He may like that as well.
I'm done............

Randomness
Last nights little venture into writing with pen and paper was unsuccessful. My mind was completely blank! I'm planning to continue tonight, though. I've realized that my strengths lie in character building. That will be the goal tonight. Maybe that is where my stories will begin. With a really well thought out character.
Right now, I'm flipping through the Norton Anthology of Poetry. Maybe I'll find a little inspiration within the pages..... Having found nothing useful at this time in the Norton Anthology, I have moved on to a book titled Beginning with Poems......and NOTHING! Ugh. I'm beginning to get discouraged. Maybe I'm trying too hard. Maybe I should try reading something different. For the past few months, I've read nothing but Twilight and EJD (Eric Jerome Dickey) books. Maybe that's where my problem lies. There isn't any variety in my reading as of late. I've been considering reading Prim and Improper by Liz Ireland again. Maybe I'll do that tonight.
In other news:
Last night I watched Magic Beyond Words: A J.K Rowling documentary. It was okay and I enjoyed it. It was very inspiring. I just read a review of it on a website that mentioned that she didn't sign off on it so some of the stuff may not have been accurate. That's kind of a letdown but they did mention some things that we already knew about her. For example: She was a welfare mom, and she wrote histories and stories about the characters and Hogwarts before she had finished the book. That's a great idea! (At least I think so). I also find it fascinating that she wrote the last chapter of the last book before finishing the first book.
Random: It amazes me how making chicken nuggets for my son can inspire new ideas...
Anyway, I'm going to write. Laters

Laters

Pen and paper-Getting back to my more creative self.
So I think I've figured out what I was doing differently back then in regards to some earlier pieces that were much better than what I'm doing now. I was writing with pen and paper. So simple but apparently it was working. (I think). That's what I'm doing tonight. I'm getting an old composition book, and a pen and I'm going to try and get back to my more creative self. Hopefully by the end of the night, this will pay off and I'll have some decent somethings to show for my effort. Wish me luck......

3rd Party Cookies, and the Loss of my Poetic skills.......
So I recently discovered that I can't make comments on blogs unless I unblock cookies on my computer. I'm afraid of getting a virus so that isn't going to happen. Please don't take it personally.
In other news: Yesterday I got an unexpected email. It was a notification from Myspace telling me that someone had sent me a friend request. I haven't been on in ages! After retrieving my password, I logged in and looked around. My how things have changed!
Yesterday I posted a piece on here that I copied and pasted from Myspace. I wrote it four years ago. I wrote about how I couldn't believe that I had written it. It was pretty good! (in my opinion). I'm still a bit upset that I haven't written anything to compare to it in four years! I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.I can't for the life of me figure out what I was doing differently back then. It's been driving me crazy!
My goal today (besides working on my resume) is trying to get back to where I was four years ago.
Wish me luck!!

Myspace work. WOW!!
So I just got an email notification that someone friended me on Myspace. I haven't been on there in forever. I had to reset my password just to log on. Once I did though, I realized that things had really changed! WOW! It looks like a completely different site now.
I had forgotten that I had written a couple of blog pieces on there way back in the day. Like three or four years ago. There was one that simmply blew me away. I was so much more poetic back then. I'm posting here now:
I'm in the process of writing a romance novel and the passage below is so far my favorite part of the book. I've never written a romance novel before so maybe you could read it, comment, and tell me what you think. Thanks!!
........Charles listened attentively to everything the beautiful young woman sitting across from him was saying. Her voice was like a cool breeze on a summer day. He tried not to get too distracted by the way her full lips moved seductively over her perfect white teeth as she spoke. When he first saw her standing at the counter ordering her drink, her shoulder length, ebony hair swaying poetically with her every move, he knew that he had to meet her. When she turned around to look for a seat and he got his first glimpse of her beautiful brown eyes and heart shaped, honey-colored face, he knew that he was a goner. She slowly began to make her way around the room in search of a place to sit. Her small toned body moved in a legato rhythm that his body had an immediate response to. Then, she was standing right next to him and he got a whiff of something heady and exotic. "You can sit here", he had said. When she sat, he got another whiff of that seductive scent she was wearing. As Charles sat listening to her words creating a verbal melody in his mind, he knew that some how he had to get to know her on an emotional level........
All I can say is WOOOOOW!!! I really need to get back to that point!

On The Hunt.....
So I'm looking for a new job. Well, not new as in "I'm quitting my current job". I mean new as in "job period". I'm looking for something that I can do from home. At his age, there are no schools that I'm comfortable with putting my son in right now. I'll need to stay home with him.
Finding a legitimate work from home job is no easy feat! You have to wade through the skads of people trying to steal your money or identtiy. It's a nightmare! I've been combing through sites all day, as well as building my resume; something I've never actually done. I simply wrote my job history down on a piece of paper that I keep handy in my wallet when I'm filling out job applications.
I've actually found a couple of good prospects. The usual medical transcriptionists jobs are available, as well as some writing jobs that look okay. : ) There are even some call center jobs that have home based oppurtunites.
In 2011 you would think that there would be more work from home options. So many people are always complaining about gas and commute times, and having to report to a boss. Almost everyone has at least a desktop computer available, and Internet access and there are wireless options available in loads of places. I just feel like there should be more options available. I could have done my last job from home. I wonder if they have any work from home jobs available.....
Anyway about writing:
I'm working on a new piece. It was inspired by the 4th of July holiday. It's actually coming along well. I'm still working on the various other pieces that I've mentioned in previous posts. As you can see, I have a lot on my plate.
